Top 5 Songs for your NICU journey

Writer: Jamie Romanowicz Jamie Romanowicz

Being a parent in the NICU can bring on so many emotions: love, grief, hope, sorrow, eagerness and

many more.

Here is my list of songs to help you along your NICU journey.

1.) “Hold My Girl” by George Ezra

“I’ve got time, I’ve got love

Got confidence you’ll rise above

Give me a minute to hold my girl

Give me a minute to hold my girl”

We all know as a NICU parent all we want is to be able to hold our baby. With skin to skin, you have

nothing to lose.

2.) “You are the reason” by Calum Scott

“And if I could turn back the clock

I’d make sure the light defeated the dark

I’d spend every hour, of every day

Keeping you safe

And I’d climb every mountain

And swim every ocean

Just to be with you

And fix what I’ve broken

Cause I need you to see

That you are the reason

What a beautiful tribute to your NICU baby. It explains everything you would do, both physically and

emotionally to bring your baby home.

3.) “Solsbury Hill” by Peter Gabriel

“Today I don’t need a replacement

I’ll tell them what the smile on my face meant

My heart going “boom-boom-boom”

“Hey,” I said

“You can keep my things, they’ve come to take me home”

This is a very deeply and personal favorite of mine. I remember my husband playing this in the NICU

during our sons second night and I immediately told him to turn it off. I couldn’t even think of the

day that our baby would come home, especially in that moment. These words resonate so deeply

when you’re ready to take your NICU baby home.

4.) “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz

“Well I won’t give up on us

Even if the skies get rough

I’m giving you all my love

I’m still looking up”

No matter how long your NICU journey is, you see hope every single day your baby meets a new

milestone towards coming home. You know that you would never give up on that sweet baby, and

you can’t wait to take them home.

5.) “Amen” by Micah Tyler

“How could I hide this joy inside of me

Amazing grace, oh Lord, how can it be?

Every day of my life I want the world to see

I can’t get over what you’ve done for me

Despite how short or long your NICU journey is, you realize that your baby is truly a gift, sent just for

you. You watch your sweet NICU baby meet milestone over milestone and you can’t help but think,

how can you hide the joy inside of you?

Your NICU journey is your own, mama. Any song you feel that resonates with you to help you cope and process this NICU journey is whatever your heart needs mama
